5 Great Summer Games for Kids

I always knew there was something that could be done with Cheez It Scrabble crackers, but I just couldn't grasp it.  Well here it is... Edible Bingo.  This site has  a download for free printable bingo cards and explains how to play this fun game.
Kids love sidewalk chalk but this is a new twist.  Learn how to make this Colorful Ice Chalk. The  site for this chalk has alot of fun ideas such as making a rainbow of colors and freezing the chalk in different shapes.

Using bedsheets and a hula hoop at the top for this tent is pure genius.  I don't know why I never thought of this when my kids were young.  They made tents in the living room all the time, and I mean all the time.  This would have been the perfect solution.  They loved it outdoors and they loved tents.  The best of two worlds.
I love this idea for a large matching memory game.  Using poster board, cut out squares.  Make sets of matching pictures, words, or letters on one side, leaving one side blank. You have an inexpensive game for hours of outside fun.  Idea from Dollar Store Crafts.
This cool game uses a tic tac toe grid and frisbees. It is made by lining  a shower curtain with duck tape.  The object is to line up 3 players and  see who can  make the best shot.  Game found at A Turtles Life for Me

Fill Party Balloons with Candy and Gifts The Easy Way

Photo: Gunny Sack
Fill Balloons With Candy and Toys using the following technique.  I have always liked the idea of filling balloons with candy and letting the kids pop them but I didn't like the idea of filling each balloon.  We know how the friction can slow things down.  If you make  a water bottle funnel (use a bottle with a wide mouth) you can easily push candy into balloons.
Use orange and black for Halloween parties, Red or Green for Christmas Parties, pink for a girls birthday party, blue for a boys birthday Parties , and pastels for Easter parties. How about filling with small baby shower gifts and letting mom to be pop the balloon.
For Gender Reveal baby showers, fill with pink or blue confetti and let someone special pop the balloon. There are so many ways this idea can be used. Use larger balloons for larger items.  And don't forget money slides in easily too.  Teens love money.

(Craft Fail) Halloween Gloves Filled With Candy

Craft Fail!!! Not happy at all with the way these Halloween candy gloves turned out and can't believe I'm posting this. The gloves where  HUGE. 3 times too big for my hands. So much for one size fits all.  Well back to the  One roll of sweet tarts should fill the finger of the glove, and  you can add a spider ring.  Fill the rest of the glove with your favorite candies, tie with a colorful  ribbon (I only had black) and hopefully it will look much better than this.  Learn through my mistake and buy small or medium gloves and the clear gloves would show the candy much better.  I guess the Kids at Fall Fest won't mind how they look, if I can get up the nerve to pass them out.  I do have a reputation to protect here.

UPDATE : These gloves were a hit at a Halloween Party, and it was the adults loving them.  You just never know!!

  Party Ideas:

Plan for the party to last an hour to an hour-and-a-half since babies have short attention spans and run out of energy quickly.
Plan the party for late morning or late afternoon after nap time.
Have guests bring a memento like a photo of a relative with baby,a toy, or a magazine with the year of her birth.  I bought
a Life Magazine when my daughter was a baby.  It amazes her what was going on in the world when she was born. Put these items in a  time capsule for baby to open on 21st birthday.

Make simple but very cute cupcakes by piping icing around the edges of the cupcake and using a icing pen to make the face.
Photo: Cupcakes Take the Cake
Put the children's food at eye level to make it more appealing.  They love small cut up fruit, such as bananas, peaches, pineapple, and small cookies like  graham crackers, animal crackers.  Be sure to have some grown up food for friends and family members.

Small children enjoy playing with balls.  Try several different types. Small balls like these Kush balls or large beach type balls. Bean bag toss is another activity young children enjoy.  While they are outside, give them some sidewalk chalk.  Highlight the activities by releasing a bunch of balloons.

Catch the Tiger by the Tail Game: (Easy to set up game that the older kids will enjoy.  This may be too difficult for a one year old.)

Kids sit in a circle on the floor. The  child who is the lion  puts  a homemade Lion's tail into his waistband and begins circling the group and touching each child on the head and saying Lion.  When he touches a head and says Hyena, the hyena tries to grab the lions tail.  If the Lion can make it back to the hyena's seat with his tail, he is still King of the jungle.

Don't go overboard with the party, your one year old will never remember it, but be sure to have the camera ready to make pictures  for your baby to see later.

Personalized Easter Baskets

I have posted ideas for Easter baskets before, but  since Easter is near, I decided to post it again to show how to make personalized Easter baskets for all ages.
Of course there is the usual Easter basket ideas for toddlers and other Easter basket ideas, but this list also includes   ideas for adult easter baskets, teen, pre teens, and Easter baskets for babies.
If you are drawing a blank about what to put in your childs basket, here are some great ideas.

If you are doing several Easter baskets for family and friends you may be overwhelmed trying to decide what to fill them with. Often it works best to determine what your basket recipient would like depending on their age. Following is a guideline for choosing the contents for Easy Easter baskets by age-
For a toddler basket- You will want this Easter gift basket to be full of small things that will delight your child. Candy should be kept to a minimum since it is often difficult to regulate with a very young child. You could include:
  • Books-Cardboard books work especially well for this age group since they can stand up to rough usage.
  • Toys-Small toys will enchant this age child but make sure there are not small pieces that can break off and be a choking hazard
  • Bubbles
  • Puzzles that are age appropriate
  • A plush animal
For an elementary age child's Easter gift basket- This age group is ready to take on more complicated toys. They are the most enthusiastic about Easter and will be delighted to go through Easter basket. You could include:
  • Art supplies-markers, pens and pencils, paper and stickers
  • Travel games
  • Easter themed plush animals
  • Character based toys
  • Water toys
  • Candy and other treats that they enjoy
For a pre teen basket- While this age group may seem reluctant to join in the fun of a basket they will secretly love getting one. You could include:
  • DVDs of a recent hit movie for this age group
  • CD's or a gift card to download music
  • Makeup as appropriate
  • Locker accessories for school
  • Items that reflect a personal interest or hobby
  • Snack packs of treats that they can keep in their locker
For a teenager's Easter basket- They may seem even more reluctant than their pre-teen counterparts but you should not be fooled by their standoffish behavior. They will also enjoy getting an Easter basket with the following items-
  • A gas card if the teenager is driving
  • A gift certificate to their favorite store
  • CDs of a gift card to download music
  • Items that reflect a personal interest or hobby
  • Treats and other snacks that they would enjoy
For a college student's basket- This Easter basket may have to be mailed if your college student cannot come home at Easter. But you can let them know that they are thought of with the following items-
  • A money gift card(since most college students are always broke)
  • Treats or other food items that remind them of home. Whether it is home baked chocolate chip cookies or ones from a special bakery they will appreciate it.
  • School supplies
  • Items to decorate a dorm or apartment
For an adult Easter basket- An adult Easter basket can be personalized to fit the interest or hobbies of the recipient but any adult would be happy with the following basket. You could include:
  • Gourmet chocolates-don't forget a chocolate Easter bunny
  • Peeps-because every Easter basket should have them
  • A gift certificate to a favorite restaurant perhaps accompanied by movie tickets
  • Assorted Easter candies and trinkets as appropriate for the Easter recipient
