Fall Decorations

Personalized Pumpkin
Mums and Scarecrow
I came into the kitchen late one night and my daughter was tying a ribbon on a pumpkin.  I thought, oh my dear...The thought of a pumpkin and a ribbon just didn't click for me.  The next day I had a change of heart.  She cut out letters on card stock and used colored pens for the dots and background.  I must say, I was pleased with the finished product.  We have this cute little pumpkin on our front porch..that and this adorable  scarecrow she put in a pot of mums.  I loved both ideas.  Never underestimate the creative abilities of others.
These fall decorations would be  perfect for the fall cookout or party using these invitations.

No Bake Pumpkin Cheesecake

Love, love, love this recipe from Farm Chicks.  I'm making this to take to a Fall Festival this weekend.  See those layers, it's graham crackers.  What I'm going to do is to take a boxed cheesecake and add pumpkin pie filling to it and layer it with the graham crackers.  I can only see it working.... I'm always adding something to the plain cheesecake kits.  I'm so excited about this cake.
My husband is always telling me not to take something to a get together that I have never made before...I say  take risks, change things up, try something new.  Will update you after the festival...We will see who is right, him or me.
Click on Farm Chicks for her recipe.

UPDATE I won runner up with my pumpkin cheesecake (Jello Cheesecake) that I added the pumpkin pie filling to.  The judge had a hard time deciding between mine and a pumpkin pound cake (that was delicious).  The pound cake was from scratch so she deserved to win....but mine was really good.  The next time I will use 2 boxes and add just a touch more pumpkin.

Decorating Your House for Halloween

Add a more color to your home  this Halloween with some of these great decorating ideas:

Change your light bulbs to a creepy color like blue or green It can instantly change the tone of a room from normal to spooky.  Replace the regular bulbs in lamps with colored  Party Light bulbs .  It looks best to only have one color in a  room. These bulbs are available in several colors and can be purchased at your local hardware store.

Strings of orange and/or purple colored mini-lights are a great way to add festive lighting. You can hang mini-lights around your window frames, curtain rods, door frames, across the ceiling, on a balcony, etc.

Create creepy autumn centerpieces by filling vases with dried flowers, brown leaves, and empty branches. Tie a black ribbon bow around each centerpiece.

Carve a hole in the bottom of a pumpkin, scoop out the pulp, add a battery operated votive candle in the bottom.  This looks really good on a carved or stenciled pumpkin.

For a lite brite effect  , Open bottom of the pumpkin and clean out insides. Find a stencil you like and mask tape it on the pumpkin.  With an awl punch the outline of the design through the pumpkin's flesh. fit each hole with a bulb from a set of battery-powered string lights

Saw a cute idea the other day.  Use the mini pumpkins, remove the stem and replace with bling such as a sparkly button...really cute.

** Sorry I haven't posted lately.  My internet service has been down for over 3 weeks...don't you love waiting on technicians to come and repair your satellite?

2011 Fall Fashion Trends

  •  Military inspired fashion trends are the hot ticket for Winter 2011. Cargo pants, tapered khaki’s and military jackets are perfect when  paired with a   stylish camisole, lots of jewelry and a pair of  brown leather boots. If you are not into the military style add Khaki, olive and green colors to your wardrobe.
  • Nail Art in eye catching designs is all the rage this season.  Check out local salons for the latest trends.  If you can't afford a salon purchase a nail kit
  • Animal Print is hot again this season.  Less is always better though.  Add animal print pieces like handbags or other  simple pieces. Want to make a fashion statement,  pair together an animal print skirt, a white blouse and red pumps.

Halloween Decorations

I for one will be saving my milk jugs until Halloween. These Halloween Jugs are just adorable. I found them on Eighteen 24 blogspot
They are called Spirit jugs. They are simple to make with permanent markers and clear Christmas lights. They would look very festive down a walkway or just sitting on your porch to welcome your trick or treaters on Halloween.
