3 Steps to Tame a Out of Control Closet

Decluttering is a word that is dear to my heart.  Several months ago I read a book on organizing  that changed my life…no kidding. Nothing gives me the satisfaction of seeing a well organized closet.  I have done it for years with the same results.  A few months later, it is time to do it again.  But this time was different.
Here are the steps I used to gain control of my massive clothes collection.

(This is a crucial step that you can not skip)

Take all of your clothes out of the closet and  put them on the bed.  Every piece must come out.   Leave no clothes hanging or anything on the floor.

Try on every piece of clothes (my daughter didn't want to do this step but was glad she did).
Evaluate every top, skirt, pant, coat, dress, etc.
Is there anything wrong with the piece you tried on.  Is there a button missing, a pucker that drives you crazy, too short, just plain ugly? If you don't love it, donate it or sell it on ebay.

If you have clothes you love but they need altering, gather them all and take to your seamstress, but make sure they are worth the money to have altered.

Everything you put back in your closet will be clothes you love, and that fit you like a glove.  You will be surprised at the combinations you can come up with once you streamline your closet.

Remember when you had nothing to wear but had a closet full of clothes?  Now you have less but better choices.  Everything you grab should be something that works for you.

Now is the time to shop for basics and to replace important pieces that you could no longer use.
Make a list of needs and stick to it.  You will not believe how different you will shop once you do this exercise.  You will be much more selective about every piece of clothing you buy.

I can't believe how much this changed my shopping habits.  I don't waste money on clothes that just hang in my closet.  If I buy it, it's going to be something I absolutely love.

I love to shop Goodwill and when I go now I don't come out with huge bags of clothes just because they are cheap.  I come out with clothes that have been well thought out.  I use my color note app on my smartphone to list clothes I'm looking for at Goodwill.  It keeps me from impulse buying.

8 Ways to Save More Money On Groceries

I am always looking for ways to save money on groceries.  Here are some of the best tips I have found to help my family get more bang for the buck.  These are tried and true tips that I have done for years.

1. Make a Meal Plan Each Week
The Best way to save on groceries is to make a meal plan and stick to it, You save money for 2 reasons.  You use groceries you already have in the freezer and pantry, and you save emergency trips to the grocery store.
2.Shop Early In The Morning for Discount Meats
First thing in the morning most stores are marking meat prices down to move them. My sister in law once asked me how I could afford Corned Beef brisket.  She couldn’t believe the mark down.  I got a 17.00 brisket for 7.00.  Over and over I checked the cases where they were sold and found them marked down.  She is also doing this now.
         3. Shop with a List
I use the color note app for smartphones.  I love it for groceries and any list I need to keep.  I have about 20 lists on this app. They are always with me everywhere I go...get my drift?.
         4. Use a White Erase Board to List
I use a white board to list everything I run out of during the day. This system works so well my family uses it too.  I later add the items to my colornote app.
          5. Inventory Pantry and Freezer
Know what you have in your pantry and freezer at all times, even if you have to do an inventory sheet.  Out of date items are one of the biggest waste of money.  It is so satisfying to make a meal from items that are about to expire and have your family rave about how good it is.  Happened to me this week.
 6.   Make lists from Grocery Ads
Make your Grocery lists from weekly sales paper or go online to see what is on sale.  Bulk up on sale items.  Check dates and use before they expire.
 7. Cut Your own Meat
Buy meat such as roast  when it is on sale and make your own beef stew.  Big savings.  It is worth asking your butcher if he will cut roasts.  Most of the time they won’t charge extra.
8. Use Walmart Smartphone App
This is fairly new to me but it saves a lot of money.  All you do is scan the square barcode on your receipt and Wal Mart will compare it to prices from competitors.  If they find another store with lower prices, they will give you the difference.
