Weight Loss For January

As promised, I'm posting the progress of my weight loss each month.
I didn't meet my 6 pound per month goal this month, but I did lose 3 pounds.  Never mind...weighed again and it was back.  Can't even get my post up before the weight is back
In my defense, we have had a lot going on in my family.
My nephew and his wife welcomed a new baby girl. What a joy she is. The delivery was smooth, well, as smooth as a delivery can be. My daughter was there when the baby was born.  I know it was special moment for her to see her cousin born.
On the negative side, we had a death in our family.  Another nephew's wife died.  It was an awful tragedy, the kind that stays with you all day long.  Only 47 and gone.
Susan was the kind of person that everyone remembers.  She was a judge at many beauty pageants and traveled all over the United States with her beautiful daughter who has won many titles.  Her goal was see her daughter in the Miss America pageant. I don't know if my great niece will continue without her mom.  They were so very close.  Love and hug on your family each day because we never know.
Today is February 1, so here's to another month, and another try at weight loss.

New Years Resolutions

This year is going to be different for me.  This is the year I'm going to set goals and keep them. Of course, like most people, I'm determined to lose weight.
I have been doing a lot of research on dieting.  I have lost 43 pounds since last year. I've have gained 3 pounds during the holidays, but it's not enough to discourage me.
Every year we plan to lose weight only to fall off the wagon within a few days. How can we be so serious about weight loss only to stay on track for a few days.

This year I'm setting up a diet notebook. I'm using a loose leaf notebook so I can easily add items.
In this book I will track everything I eat by using this form provided by
Be sure to visit this site, it has tons of info and simple recipes.  You can learn a lot by someone who has lost 150 lbs.
I will also track my food inventory using this form I made.

I will keep up with healthy foods by listing them.   When I use something, I add it to my grocery list.  Sometimes I will add a couple more to make sure I am well stocked.
I've also set up a recipes section for tasty low calorie meals and low sugar snacks. Most of them I print from my printer.

I have joined a site named Shrinking on a Budget
that has weekly menus and recipes they will email you.  It's $6.00 per year.  Not a bad deal at all.

For exercise I walk, which I has been pretty slack lately. I have plenty of excuses, you know the ones, it's too cold, it's too hot, rain is predicted sometime today, my knee hurts, and on and on.
I will commit to some form of exercise I can do when my excuses are legit and I need to stay in.
This is my plan for 2015.
I have shared this with you to keep myself accountable.  I plan to post at least once a month on my progress.  Join me,  we can do this together.

    My Weight Loss Journey

I don't know why but I seem to be more successful at dieting when I start in the fall.  For 3 months I have been  the same weight.  This is both good and bad.  Good because I haven't gained weight and bad because I haven't lost weight.

This week starts another round of dieting and paying extra attention to what I eat.  I know that I will never be able to eat like I used to and I don't want to.  The thought of fried foods is nauseating, and sweets are too sweet.  These are positive signs that your eating habits are changing for the good.

I have a beautiful dirt road to walk on,  but passing vehicles in  rural  areas make me very nervous, so I haven't been walking like I used to (and I haven't been losing like I used to).  Yesterday I decided to  walk a circle around my yard.  I timed myself for 30 minutes.  My pet babies always walk with me and sure enough they walked in circles with me.  They love running in and out of the woods as we walk.  It's amazing how motivated they keep me.

I've lost 43 pounds but it is time to move forward and get the rest of the weight off.  I just found a site with great recipes for weight loss.   They have a huge  section on salads, which I eat alot.  Their site is I Don't go to the Gym. I don't go to the gym either but I do believe in exercise and good eating. They have some very good tips to include movement in your day.

4 Diet Resources You don't Want to Miss

I have used many diet resources during my journey to lose weight.  Here are some of the ones I use and love.  Click on name to take you to the site.

Awesome community of people that motive each other during weight loss.  There are hundreds of recipes that you can save in your own collections.  You can track food and exercise.  Their strong point, for me, is the community that is there to cheer you on during your victories and to inspire you when you fail.

    calorie counter

Love this site!  It is one of the best resources for keeping a food journal.  It calculates the calories, fat, carbs, sugar, protein, and sodium.  I have never been one to keep a food journal but this site makes it fun.

If you are an Atkins Diet Fan.  Here is a link to sign up for a free Atkins Diet Kit.  It has Atkins Protein bars, a carb counter, and a quick start booklet.  I have done Atkins before and lost weight.  It is good to jump start a diet.

Over 600 diets listed on this site with an overview of how each diet works and the pros and cons of using this particular diet.

Best 7 Day Diet (Day 7)

Today is the moment of truth.  I didn't eat the magic soup and magic didn't happen.  I only made it to day six on the diet because of Mother's Day.  My loss for the 6 days was 5 pounds.  I'll take it. Was it worth it?  I say yes it was.  I had stubborn weight that would not move, so I'm happy to have 5 mores pounds off.
My total weight loss is 43 pounds.  I will be using My Fitness Pal to journal my food and exercise.  In a few weeks, I will be trying this diet again.  I feel like I could lose close to 10 pounds if I go strictly by the guidelines.

Best 7 Day Diet (Day 6)

Today I was supposed  to eat chicken and tomatoes.  I wasn't real hungry so I just ate a boiled egg for breakfast and grilled chicken for dinner. As long as I don't eat carbs I think I will be ok.  I really picked a bad week to diet but I have still tried to stick with it.  If I don't lose any more weight, at least I lost 5 pounds and detoxed.

    Best 7 Day Diet ( Day 5)

Today was chicken and tomato day but I changed days because we were going out of town.  I used my chicken and veggie day instead.  I don't see how it could make any difference to switch days.   We went to a restaurant and I ate baked chicken and no carb veggies.  That chicken was rocking (after 4 days with no meat)  Why is it we always want what we can't have.  The fruit on the buffet looked so good, and I don't like fruit that much.  I think I will look at food different after this diet.  I still can't decide what to do on Mother's Day, but I think I will eat meat and veggies only.

Best 7 Day Diet (Day 4)

    e lo
Day 4 on the 7 day diet  is 8 bananas and 8 glasses of milk (or yogurt).  Not my favorite day but I must say, I wasn't hungry or hangry.  I'm not weighing until the end of the week.  I feel like I have lost weight but not going to discourage myself by getting on the scales. Couldn't help myself.  4 days, I've lost 5 pounds.

Best 7 Day Diet (Day 3)

Day 3 is fruit and veggies so I made a seasonal salad with watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, and grapes.  The dressing I used was a lite strawberry vinaigrette.  This salad is so good.  When I'm not doing the 7 day diet, I will put roasted pecans on it.
Today I realized Mother's Day is this Sunday, the last day of my diet.  I really don't won't to eat cabbage soup on Mother's day. What's a girl supposed to do?

Best 7 Day Diet (Day 2)

Here are my veggies for day 2.  One important thing to remember is you must plan ahead.  Buy at least 2 days worth of food.  One for the day you are dieting and the next days food to prep.
I made veggie fries for breakfast.  They were delicious. Cut squash, zucchini, and carrots small strips. Season with salt, pepper, and Mrs. Dash.  Cook them on 400 degrees for 30 or 40 minutes and turn them  half way through. I took this picture before turning.  They will be brown  and unbelievably good. I will be cooking these again.
I roasted veggies which included squash, zucchini, onions, red pepper, tomatoes, carrots, and red potatoes.  I halved the potatoes, and cut the other veggies to similar sizes.  I put all the vegetables in a bowl and added salt, pepper, olive oil, and dry Italian dressing.  Mix and put in a roasting pan.  Cook 40 to 50 minutes on 400 degrees.
I also cooked rutabagas in my crock pot so I had plenty of veggies to keep me satisfied. Today I was less hungry than the all fruit day.

    Best 7 Day Diet ( Day 1)

On day one, you can eat all the fruit you want. Here is my bounty.
I didn't drink coffee but I was ok with that.  I had Crystal Light and cantaloupe for breakfast.  Not big on breakfast so the cantaloupe was eaten around 10:00.
You can eat all the fruit you want so I had an orange around noon.  I have nibbled on grapes and watermelon off and on all day.  I was a little hungry early in the day but it seems to have calmed down now.
On a hunger scale of 1-10, I was around 7 most of the day.

    Best 7 Day Diet Plan

Today I'm trying to jump start my weight loss with a 7 day diet I found online,  That would be this diet.

Myself and two friends are starting this diet today.  You are supposed to lose 10 pounds in 7 days.
The diet looks very doable to me. BJ and Deb think they can do it too.  We will see. I Will keep you posted on our results.

    Weight Loss Update

As of Today I have lost 37 pounds.  I can see the weight I'm losing but the scales wont' budge. I'm sticking to my program and I'm expecting a huge drop in weight soon.
My Friend Debbie and my niece Krista and I are walking  and it is helping all of us to stay accountable.  No one wants to be the one that says I'm not walking I hope we get a lot more people involved. We switch it up and walk in different places so we don't get bored.
I recently bought an ebook on nutrition that has changed my mind about food in general.  I have always known labels are deceptive but this book has made me look at nutrition in a new light.  I recently bought veggie burgers thinking I was doing good.  The book said to look at the ingredient list.  There were over 40 ingredients in the list.  There is no way that can be healthy.
Please look closely at labels. Fewer ingredients are best.  There is no magic fat burning foods, but the chemicals in the food can slow your weight loss. So simple but something most of us overlook.
I'm on a mission to clean up my food, get rid of processed food.

The Best Way to Lose Weight

I have lost 33 pounds.  The weight  is coming off so slow, but I think this is the best way to lose weight.  It has taken 6 months, but the weight is coming off.

It's been cold here so I haven't been exercising like I should.  My friend and I walked a mile yesterday and Bam....2 more pounds gone. I think I see a pattern here.  My diet is not the  fastest way to lose weight, but it works for me.   Here is a portion control chart I found with with great tips for weight loss.

It's so easy to misjudge your calorie intake.  Most people start on a 1200 calorie diet. I don't count calories but always eat the smallest size of anything I order at restaurants and fast food joints.  Also watch what you are putting on your plate when eating at home. Could you be satisfied with less?   Be your own Food Police.

Love this quote:  The person who starts the Marathon is not the same person who finishes.  Though I've lost only 33 pounds, I'm not the person who started my diet, and this is only the beginning.  It can only get better.

    Source: Ways for Weight Loss

This quote hit home for me. Nothing tastes as good as being thin.  Nothing tastes as good as fitting into smaller clothes. Nothing tastes as good as going clothes shopping and realizing there are a lot of things you can choose from now. Nothing...

We have hundreds of excuses for not exercising.  Mine has been the cold weather.  It's not cold inside.  There are alternatives. A lot of people use dance exercise videos.  I will put on some music that I love and dance like no one is looking.

30 Ways to Lose Weight Permanently

I have Finally Hit 30 pounds weight loss, actually  I have lost 31 pounds.  It's moving slow but  slow is best because you are developing new eating  habits. Here are some great weight loss tips.  I follow most of these, but I don't weigh everyday.

    • Losing Weight is Fun....really Fun

How to Survive Overeating at Parties and Lowfat Spinach Dip Recipe

As of today I've lost 29 pounds, and lost one of them during the holidays.  Nothing feels better
than to be in  control of  your eating. The diet tip that helped me survive at Christmas
parties...take a dish you can eat on your diet.  I chose a vegetable tray with a low fat spinach
dip I made. Were the party goers lined up for my my beautiful veggie Tray? No, but I enjoyed being able to eat without guilt. I was proud of my colorful dish with cherry tomatoes, celery, carrots,

snow peas, and broccoli. Everyone loved my spinach dip, and were using it on their fat filled
crackers and chips.  Here is my recipe for Spinach dip...Oops forgot to tell them it was low fat.

        Simple Lowfat Spinach Dip

    •     1 cup low fat sour cream
    •     1/4 cup spinach (I used frozen that I thawed and    squeezed the water from it) Fresh is Best.
    •     6 or 7 water chestnuts (chop)

Mix sour cream and spinach together. Chop the water chestnuts into small pieces and add to mix.

Did I eat any of their  party dishes? Sure, but I was selective and ate a small amount.   When I

eat a significant amount of fat, I have what I call a food hangover.  Nothing motivates like

hugging a trash can.  Now to get back on my fitness regimen.

    10 Diet Tips for 2014

    1. Visualize  Yourself Thin- find old pictures of yourself thinner and put them where you can see them (The fridge is a good place).  Don't use your "fat" picture, it's too depressing.  If you don't have a slim picture, find a picture of someone you admire and put it up. Visual Boards are good too.
    2. Set mini goals.  One of mine was to get into a pair of jeans that had been in my drawer for years.  Where they skinny jeans?  No, but this girl felt she had accomplished something when they easily slid on.
    3. Stop eating Fried Foods- I bake, broil, grill, and boil everything. Now I prefer my food this way. Fried foods give me a sick feeling when I eat them now.
    4. Enjoy your Favorites in Moderation- It took me a long time to understand the word moderation, now I live it. There is nothing I can't have, in moderation. Being able to take a small portion or one bite is empowering.
    5. Watch Carbs- Don't cut them out completely, they are important but focus on proteins, veggies, and fruits.
    6. Eat Lots of Fiber- Fiber fills you up and taste delicious.  Try whole grains ( oatmeal, high fiber cereal, popcorn, etc) Beans (dry and canned can be added to soups, salad, and entrees. Colorful fruits and vegetables are like a secret diet pill. They keep you full
    7. Move, move, move- If you hate the word exercise, just call it movement. Stay busy cleaning something, shopping (for smaller clothes), volunteer work, or anything that moves your body.
    8. Chicken Breast is your friend- swap out fatty meats with chicken breast.  There are tons of ways to cook chicken breast.  I could eat it everyday and I have.  Find healthy recipes and save them in a binder.
    9. Stock up on Snacks- Convenience foods are what usually throw your diet in a tailspin.  Keep sugar free or lowfat jello (in cups).  They are ready to go and only 10 calories. Prepackaged foods are great for fast snacks and portion control. They are easy to grab and go or to throw in a lunch bag or purse.
    10. Read Labels- I know you have heard this a thousand times, but you need to read labels before buying food.  How many times have I come home with something I thought was low calorie to find they tricked me with the portion size. Nutrition Labels are a science, one you need to embrace.

10 Things I Learned about Weight Loss

I have lost 26 pounds since August...not alot but I did survive Christmas with no weight gain. I am so happy about that. Now  I don't have to go through the act of losing the same weight over again.   I'm ready to start the traditional New Years Weight Loss Resolution with 26 pounds in my favor.

Here are some things I have learned about weight loss:
    1. Stop eating Sugar.  This is a hard one for alot of people but it works.  You will see a big difference in how much you crave sweets and fattening foods.
    2.   No Cola or Diet Cola.  I was guilty of thinking if I switched to diet drinks I would lose weight.  I have learned that your body treats artificial sugar the say way it does regular sugar.  You still crave sugar. I'm trying to learn to like water, but that is not going to happen.  I do drink it when I order out.
    3. You are going to have periods where you weight loss stalls.  It's your body adjusting to the loss.  Don't lose hope.
    4. Get unhealthy foods out of your house.  Get the healthy stuff in.  Everyone will benefit.
    5. It's fun experimenting with healthy foods.  New recipes, new finds at the grocery store, new chef shows that focus on clean eating. It becomes who you are.
    6. Exercise is your friend.  It doesn't have to be strenuous..take a walk, listen to the birds, breathe in the clean air.  Movement makes you feel alive.
    7. Some people weigh everyday.  Not me, weight fluctuates and I'm not going to be depressed all day long about a pound of weight I gained.  I weigh myself each Saturday morning.
    8. As you lose the weight, get rid of the clothes that are too big.  You will never ever need them again.
    9.  You can eat out but make wise choices.  Most restaurants have a heart smart or low fat section on the menu.  Research your favorite fast food places to find the best choices.  Little changes make a big difference in the long run.
    10. If your family is not supportive, find someone to take the journey with you.  I have family and friends that are on my team.
I went to a Christmas Party this weekend and the best part was when two of the teenagers attending the party were discussing my weight loss and telling me how good I looked.  Weight loss is not an easy journey but it is so worth the compliments and the new healthy you.  What are your weight plans for 2014?

    My Weigh In

Love this quote... Total weight loss...22 pounds Seems my weight is slow coming off, but I have been out of town two times in the last month.  I had only one cheat meal while visiting my niece in the mountains this weekend.  It was a Chick Fila (number 1) which wasn't too bad.  My daughter and I stopped at Applebees for lunch.  They have a 550 calorie menu that is wonderful.  I had the Napa chicken with red wine sauce. I couldn't believe I wasn't cheating. When I got home I was able to wear a pair of pants I had put away for later.  That was a good feeling.
While attending a wedding this weekend, I had a chance to talk to my best friend's son who is a personal trainer.  I told him the struggle I'm having with the scales not moving fast enough.  He told me to remember, like body building, weight loss is a process.  It doesn't happen overnight and everyone wants instant results. I left feeling much better about my 22 pounds.
