7 Great Style Secrets and Tips

My Sister-in-law, Sue has a great sense of style.  I   never remember seeing her that she didn’t look fabulous . I love shopping with her for 2 reasons.  One thing is I’m learning all her “secrets”, and the second thing is she is completely honest about the clothes I try on.  Everyone needs a friend like her.

 Secret 1
One day Sue took 2 of the same size and same color pants in the dressing room.  She laughed and said I know you think I’m crazy but the same size can fit different. Truthfully I thought it was a little odd, but  boy was she right.
On one of our shopping trips I found a blouse I loved but it was too tight.  Sue told me to try another one in the same size.  It was a perfect fit.  I’ve never shopped the same since.

Secret 2
Don't get sold on sales, unless it is something on your needs list.  So many times I have bought a sale item only to put it straight into my Goodwill bag.
Save your money to buy something that you love. Now that you are shopping smarter you can afford a higher quality item occasionally.

 Secret 3
Forget the size tags. I know you all have been there, where you bought something because you liked the size on the tag.  It's a trick of the garment industry.  If you are a 14 and you find a 10 you can wear, you are more likely to buy it. Buy because you love an item, not because you love the size on the tag.

 Secret 4
Build up your jewelry and scarves collections. Great necklaces, earrings, and scarves can make a basic wardrobe pop. You can take a look from plain to gorgeous with the right accessory.
I do look for jewelry at high end stores when they are on sale.  I go in with a game plan, not impulsive grabbing everything I like.

 Secret 5
Find a tailor and make him or her your best friend. Mine just happens to be a friend and she is awesome. I try to find clothes that fit but sometimes the hem or sleeves have to be altered.  I'm not good at hems so they go straight to the tailor. Fit is what
makes or breaks an outfit.

 Secret 6
Invest in the best undergarments you can afford. If the girls aren't in their proper place, there is no way you will look stylish.  Also invest in a whole body slimmer (the kind that look like a teddy) for a smooth backside.

 Secret 7
Become a quick change artist. Keep a scarf in your purse to instantly change your look.  Great if you have an engagement after work and don't have time to change.

8 Ways to Save More Money On Groceries

I am always looking for ways to save money on groceries.  Here are some of the best tips I have found to help my family get more bang for the buck.  These are tried and true tips that I have done for years.

1. Make a Meal Plan Each Week
The Best way to save on groceries is to make a meal plan and stick to it, You save money for 2 reasons.  You use groceries you already have in the freezer and pantry, and you save emergency trips to the grocery store.
2.Shop Early In The Morning for Discount Meats
First thing in the morning most stores are marking meat prices down to move them. My sister in law once asked me how I could afford Corned Beef brisket.  She couldn’t believe the mark down.  I got a 17.00 brisket for 7.00.  Over and over I checked the cases where they were sold and found them marked down.  She is also doing this now.
         3. Shop with a List
I use the color note app for smartphones.  I love it for groceries and any list I need to keep.  I have about 20 lists on this app. They are always with me everywhere I go...get my drift?.
         4. Use a White Erase Board to List
I use a white board to list everything I run out of during the day. This system works so well my family uses it too.  I later add the items to my colornote app.
          5. Inventory Pantry and Freezer
Know what you have in your pantry and freezer at all times, even if you have to do an inventory sheet.  Out of date items are one of the biggest waste of money.  It is so satisfying to make a meal from items that are about to expire and have your family rave about how good it is.  Happened to me this week.
 6.   Make lists from Grocery Ads
Make your Grocery lists from weekly sales paper or go online to see what is on sale.  Bulk up on sale items.  Check dates and use before they expire.
 7. Cut Your own Meat
Buy meat such as roast  when it is on sale and make your own beef stew.  Big savings.  It is worth asking your butcher if he will cut roasts.  Most of the time they won’t charge extra.
8. Use Walmart Smartphone App
This is fairly new to me but it saves a lot of money.  All you do is scan the square barcode on your receipt and Wal Mart will compare it to prices from competitors.  If they find another store with lower prices, they will give you the difference.

Please leave me a comment and let me know how you save money on groceries.
